At Masó Properties we have been designing and building extraordinary homes on the Costa Brava since 1932. Our story begins with Felip Masó, founder of the company, who was hired by Josep Ensesa i Gubert to carry out the construction of a development that would become legendary: S’Agaró Vell..

S’AGARÓ VELL:
THE ORIGIN OF OUR PHILOSOPHY
The S’Agaró Vell development is one of the most representative examples of quality Mediterranean urban planning. In the 1920s, Josep Ensesa i Gubert dreamed of creating an elegant, harmonious residential environment far removed from mass tourism. To realise this vision, he entrusted the architect Rafael Masó, the leading exponent of Catalan Noucentisme, who designed a development based on the principles of order, tradition, unified aesthetics and respect for the landscape.
The first houses were designed with a pure Mediterranean character: white walls, Arabic tile roofs, well-tended gardens and a layout that dialogued with nature. The jewel of the urbanisation is the iconic Hostal de la Gavina, today a symbol of the exclusivity of S’Agaró.
S’Agaró Vell is much more than a residential development: it is a model of how architecture can
integrate with its surroundings without sacrificing comfort or style. Its design has been a source of inspiration for numerous high-end residential developments on the Costa Brava and beyond.
LEGACY AND INFLUENCE
From the beginning, S’Agaró Vell established strict rules to preserve the visual harmony
and architectural style. Any construction, reform or extension had to be approved by the general architect of the urbanisation, who also provided the materials and plans. These rules were recorded in the notarial deeds and were obligatory even for future buyers.
Thanks to this rigorous planning, S’Agaró Vell consolidated its image as an exclusive, private community, carefully integrated into the landscape, remaining faithful to its founding principles: exclusivity, privacy and tranquillity.
